Injuries:  Possible broken leg, lacerations, bruises, & possible internal injuries. Listed in fair condition. The Hospital would not release information regarding injuries.

Narrative:   Sheriff Dale R. Gribler reports that deputies were dispatched to the above location for a one car traffic crash with entrapment. 
     Upon arrival, deputies found that the vehicle was traveling west bound on 24th avenue when it went over the centerline, off the left shoulder of the roadway, and struck a tree.  Due to the violent impact, the airbag was deployed, and the driver was trapped.  The jaws of life were used by the fire department to remove the driver from the vehicle.  Deputies did speak with the driver, and he admitted to falling asleep.  
     The driver was transported to Bronson ER by VBEMS.

Incident Number:  8899-2010
Incident Type: Search Warrant for Marijuana Grow Operation (390 Plants seized).
Date and Time:  November 27, 2010 at 11:00 A.M.
Location: 43000 block of Baseline Road, Bloomingdale Township, County of Van Buren
Charges Sought:  Delivery/Manufacture Marijuana over 200 plants. Possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Suspects:
     24 year old male who resides at this residence.
     26 year old female who resides at this residence. 

Information: Sheriff Dale R. Gribler reports the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to assist a DNRE Conservation Officer at the Baseline residence.
     The DNRE Officer made contact with the 24 year old male standing next to a conversion van in the drive of the residence. The officer observed a large number of pots with marijuana stalks/stems and leafs. The suspect stated that he was disposing of the marijuana stalks/stems for another person, but could not provide the persons name or address. Deputies arrived to assist the DNRE officer and interview the suspect. The information being provided by the suspect did not add up and the narcotic’s officers were called and a search warrant was obtained for the residence.
     Execution of the search warrant showed that the residence was being used to grow-manufacture and produce marijuana from all stages. In the up stairs area was a room with the starting of small marijuana plants (114). In another room was the processing and drying room, they were cutting the buds off the plants, using a large rack for drying, and table for packaging the marijuana.
     On the first floor was the bedroom with a small amount of marijuana and a loaded Colt AR 223 semiautomatic assault rife that was loaded.
     Basement area officers found a hidden room that held the mature marijuana plants (152) with very large buds. This room was set up with a three sodium grow light systems, two air filtering system that were vented to the outside, osculating fans, fertilizers, grow chemicals and water. In another basement room was the middle stag of the grow with potted plants (124), with one sodium grow light systems on a rail that would move from one end to the other over the marijuana plants.
     Other seized items included additional bags of processed marijuana, scales, fans, computer, unknown pills, and grow power cord equipment. Additionally. in one of the out building, there was construction being done to convert the building into a larger grow room.
     The suspect was lodged in the Van Buren County Jail pending arraignment, he has posted bond and will be arraigned at a later date. He name will be released after arraignment.
     This incident remains under investigation.

Date and Time of Incident:  Thursday, July 29, 2010 at approx. 10:45 p.m.  
Location:  West side of Village Of Bloomingdale and Bloomingdale Twp, Van Buren Co. Incident Type:  Breaking and Entering of VBC Road Commission Garage, Stolen Vehicle, Larceny from a Motor Vehicle, Property Damage Crash, and MDOP to a Vehicle. 

Information:  Sheriff Dale R. Gribler advises that the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Village Of Bloomingdale at about 10:45 pm on July 29th for a simple assault in which the suspect fled prior to deputy’s arrival. 
     While deputies were searching the area for the suspect, who was not located, deputies discovered that the Van Buren County Road Commission Garage had been broken into. A Kawasaki Mule ATV along with assorted tools had been taken. 
     At approximately 1:15 a.m. on July 30th, deputies were dispatched to an single car traffic crash at the dead end of 471/2 S. and 8th, in which the driver fled the scene. It was later discovered that the vehicle was stolen from a business parking lot in the 43000 block of CR388. Another vehicle was vandalized at this location and a third vehicle had a car stereo stolen from within. This location is only a few blocks west of the Road Commission Garage. It is unknown at this time if the incidents are related.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is asking for anyone that may have information in regards to these incidents contact the sheriff’s office at 269-657-3101 or Crimes Stoppers at 1-800-342-7867. Incident Type:  Fatal Motorcycle Crash
Date and Time:  Monday July 19, 2010 at 12:45 P.M.
Location of Incident:  CR 380 East of 39 1/2 Street, Bloomingdale Township
Victim:  Dillon Matthew Reed, an 18 year old male with an address out of Bloomingdale, MI.
Vehicle
:  Red 2007 Kawasaki Motorcycle owned by the victim
Helmet:  Helmet was worn
Alcohol:  Not a factor in this accident
Factors:  It is not believed that any negligent actions of the operator were a factor in this accident. Speed was not a factor in this accident.

Information:  Sheriff Dale R. Gribler reports a fatal motorcycle accident involving 18 year old Dillon Reed of Bloomingdale. The accident occurred on 7/19/2010 at 1245 p.m. on CR 380 east of 39 1/2 Street.
     Reed was eastbound on CR 380 East of 39 1/2 street on his motorcycle when a large Turkey Buzzard bird flew across his path. Investigation determined Reed was not speeding. The Turkey Buzzard impacted with Reed in the chest area causing him to loose control of his motorcycle go off the road and strike some trees. Reed was pronounced dead at the scene.

Narrative:  Sheriff Dale R. Gribler reports that Van Buren county sheriff deputies were called to investigate  a residential break-in located in the 35000 block of Mill Lake Road. 
     Deputies investigation into the incident discovered that, not only had the home been broke into, but surrounding outbuildings as well.  The suspect(s) did drive a green John Deere Gator around during the incident then returned it back to the scene as it was the victims.
     There were several items taken.  Some of the items was a Super Nintendo play system, water pump, numerous boating tubes, rototiller, lawn vacuum, snowmobile trailer modified for lawn clean up w/ sides installed, weed wacker,28 gallon portable gas tank on wheels, 12 volt batteries, theater system, DVD players, vhs players, and other items.

     2. Lori Hewitt, 26 yr old female from Grand Junction,
         MI.  Arrested for Parole Violation.
 

Information:  Sheriff Dale R. Gribler reports the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit received a citizens tip as to the location of Thomson, who was wanted on an outstanding Felony warrant for dangerous drugs. 
     Narocotics detectives set up surveillance on the residence and observed a vehicle matching the description given, pull into the driveway. 
Detectives immediately pulled in behind the vehicle.  Detectives made contact with the male driver of the vehicle asking for his ID.  The male subject gave detectives a name that turned out to be false.  He was ID as Peter Thomson and was taken into custody.  A search was conducted on the vehicle they drove up in, and located inside was pseudoephedrine which was just purchased from a Kalamazoo store. 
     A search of the residence was then conducted.  Located in an Igloo cooler, were all the components / chemicals necessary to manufacture meth.  Also located was a small amount of finished meth, used syringes, and a user amount of marijuana.

     Both Thomson and Hewitt were transported to the VBC Jail and lodged.

Date & Time of Incident:  January 16, 2010 evening of, but before afternoon of, 1-17-10.
Location of Incident:
  40000 Block of CR388, Bloomingdale Township.

Information:   Sheriff Dale R. Gribler reports that deputies were called to the 40000 block of CR388 for a Break-in that had occurred. 
     It was found that the suspect's broke in, and drove their vehicle into the building which is now used for storage.  Once inside, the suspect's hooked up to a tandem axle tilt car trailer.  They then loaded 2 quads, a wood stove, numerous floor jacks, numerous computer's & computer equipment, and other items. 
     The suspect's also jacked up a stored car, and took the tires and rims off of it. INCIDENT TYPE:  ATV Personal Injury Crash
DATE AND TIME:  Sunday August 23, 2009 at approximately 4:15 pm

  20th Avenue, east of 41st Street, Bloomingdale Township, Van Buren County.
VEHICLE INVOLVED:  2001 Polaris Sportsman 400CC.
DRIVER-VICTIM INFORMATION:  Denis Koch, 55 years, Bloomingdale Resident.
INJURIES TO DRIVER:  Numerous Cuts and Abrasion, Closed Head Injury. 

INFORMATION:  Sheriff Dale R. Gribler reports that on Sunday August 23, 2009 at approximately 4:15 pm, Deputies were dispatched to 20th Avenue just east of 41st Street, Bloomingdale Township, for numerous 911 calls reporting that a ATV overturned with the driver sustained multiple injuries.
     Investigation determined that Denis Koch, Bloomingdale, was operating a 2001, 4X4 ATV Four Wheeler on the public roadway when Koch turned his head to look behind him, this caused Koch to lose control of the ATV with the ATV overturning ejecting Koch onto the Paved roadway. Koch was knocked unconscious and subsequently transported to Bronson Hospital for his injuries where he was admitted. Koch was not wearing a helmet.
     The investigation is still currently open.

Narrative:  Sheriff Dale R. Gribler reports that a Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding, 75 in a 55 MPH zone. The above vehicle then fled from the Deputy at a high rate of speed north on CR 665 then turned eastbound on CR 380.  The vehicle ended up going off the road through a ditch and into a field.  The driver then fled on foot into a residence nearby.  The driver turned himself over to the Deputy a short time later.  He was arrested for Fleeing & Eluding and Driving While License Suspended.  The drivers name cannot be released until after he has been arraigned.

Suspect:  38 years old male out of Bloomingdale (boyfriend)
Victim:  37 years old female out of Bloomingdale (girlfriend)
Criminal Charges:  Domestic Assault
Victim Injuries:  Bruising & scratches to the neck, bruised lower lip, right swollen hand, scratch on upper lip.

Narrative:  Sheriff Dale R. Gribler reports that a deputy was dispatched to the above location for two parties arguing over a child custody incident.  The responding Deputy immediately noticed injuries on the female.  An investigation was done over the incident and found that the male boyfriend had punched and strangled the girlfriend causing the injuries listed above.  The male was arrested for domestic violence.  Name to be released after arraignment.
